Beautifully prepared parchment, white and smooth on both sides.
Lagenstruktur
[1], i8-1 (lacks one at front, present 1st folio [FEL ii] has no text), ii6, iii6-1 (original 4th folio missing: f. 15 is single with stub before, stub no doubt used to be after f. 15, where one would expect Crucifixion on recto [facing Mary and John on 15v] and the Matthew-portrait on verso), iv-xvi8, xvii6, xviii8, xix6, xx8, xxi6, xxii4, xxiii-xxiv8, xxv6, xxvi8, xxvii-xxviii6, xxix8, xxx6, [1]. No quire signatures.
Seiteneinrichtung
Written space: 187 mm x 113 mm 25 lines, except 28 lines on ff. 202-215. ¶ Long lines. Dry-point ruling, double bounding lines, with additional line in both margins to enclose canon table references prickings trimmed, visible only for bounding lines; inner bounding lines end at second from top and second from bottom text lines, so that a neat interior frame is formed top and bottom text lines extend to the lines in margins for canon table references, outer bounding lines and lines in margin end at top and bottom text lines; text above top line.

Buchschmuck

  • Full-page miniatures: Jerome, f. 1v;Mary and John standing, f. 15v;evangelist portraits for Mark (f. 67v), Luke (104v), and John (160v)(Crucifixion [?] and Matthew-portrait missing after f. 15v).
  • Evangelist portraits and facing titulus pages (following folio recto) have corresponding arches (arch for Matthew on titulus page, f. 16r);
  • above portraits, under arches, the evangelists' symbols are in rondels; in the ring of each rondel is a hexemeter verse (see comment-section for text ff. 5v-200r below).
  • Facing pairs of incipit pages have corresponding borders with gold, silver and interlace (ff. 16v-17r, 68v-69r, 105v-106r, and 161v-162r);
  • miniature and text on 1v-2r and miniature on 15v also have similar borders.
  • Canon tables, ff. 9v-15r in double arches or in single arches with columns.
  • Interlace initials on ff. 2r, 66r, and 101r;
  • inhabited initial on f. 158v (dog in shape of an "h").
  • Incidental initials in gold square capitals throughout codex.
  • Motifs include dog and bird, human head, leaf and geometric designs, as well as interlace.
  • Colors: green, gray-blue, rosy red, brown, yellow, white, black, as well as gold and silver.
  • Ff. 17v-18r in gold uncials.
  • Canon table references in margins.

Provenienz
According to C. Nordenfalk (loc. cit.), belongs to the so-called Franko-saxon group of late Carolingian mss. which probably originate at Saint-Amand.

Other Gospels preceded by prologues ( 66r-v = Stegmüller 607, 100v-101r = Stegmüller 620, 158v-159r = Stegmüller 624), lists of capitula, evangelist portraits (verso) and titulus (facing recto), plus facing verso and recto of decorated incipit pages (see decoration above). Evangelist portraits contain verse-inscriptions: "Marcus ut alta fremit vox per deserta leonis." (f. 67v); "Iura sacerdotii lucas tenet ora iuvenci" (f. 104v); "More volans aquilae verbo petit astra iohannes" (f. 160v). Ff. 65v and 100r blank.
